Privacy policy
Tapo Recorder is a personal-use camera recording and backup application operated by Hagop Ipdjian. This policy describes the recorder and this information website.
Information processed
The recorder processes camera video, motion and person-detection signals, recording timestamps, filenames and operational logs. The current configuration records video without audio. Camera credentials and Google OAuth credentials and tokens are stored on the owner's local recording device, in files restricted to its administrator.
Google Drive access and use
Google authorisation allows the recorder, through rclone, to create folders, upload completed recordings and inspect file metadata to manage and retry backups. The intended permission is https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file: access to files and folders created or explicitly authorised for this application. It does not request access to Gmail, contacts or calendars.
Google user data is used only to provide and maintain this recording backup function. It is not sold, used for advertising, used to train AI models, or supplied to data brokers. Tapo Recorder's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Where data is stored and shared
Video is first stored on local USB storage and then transferred to the Google Drive account authorised by the owner. Google processes the uploaded information under its own terms and privacy policy. Recordings are accessible to the account owner and anyone the owner deliberately grants access to through Drive. This public website does not receive camera credentials, OAuth tokens or video recordings.
Retention and deletion
In the current recorder configuration, successfully uploaded local copies are eligible for deletion after 48 hours. Clips that have not uploaded successfully are retained locally for retry. Incomplete recordings may remain locally for administrator review. Recording pauses when available USB space falls below the configured threshold.
Cloud recordings are not automatically deleted by this configuration. The owner can delete them in Google Drive and empty Drive's bin where appropriate. Local files can be deleted by the device administrator. Revoking Google access stops future authorised access but does not delete recordings already stored.
Your controls
The owner can stop the recorder, change camera detection settings, manage sharing and delete recordings. Google access can be revoked at Google Account connections. People with questions about a recording or a deletion request can contact the operator below.
Security and reliability
Uploads use encrypted HTTPS connections. Local credential files have restricted permissions. Camera connections run over the local network and are not necessarily encrypted. Detection and uploads can be interrupted; the recorder is not a guarantee that every event will be captured. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
